I need to fill some of the cracks in my floor now and I'm a little uncertain about how to do it. I've purchased the Full Trowel Wood Filler. Can I just use this stuff selectively and lay it in the cracks with a putty knife or do I need to use a trowel? It is really very viscous - I expected it to be firmer.

A little detail would help. Hardwood, Laminate, Cork, is it the surface, sub floor and are we talking cracks or open joints and if joints are they long side or ends and last if an open joint is the gap uniform?

Ok, red oak 3/4" planks sanded to bare wood. It has some areas that I wish to fill. No crack are over 1/16th wide. There is a long crack in one of the boards where I cut it with a circular saw so I could pull the floor back down to the subfloor with wood screws because it was buckled.

Depending on the brand you bought it is made to be thin to get into all the nooks and cranies. I say go for it fill the whole floor it will dry in a short period of time and all you will need to do is screen it. Why take a short cut if you don't have to.
