Need a good resource that gives instructions for removing a window and installing french doors

Everything will depend on the width of the existing window, and the width of the french doors. If the window is as wide (or wider) than the french doors, the installation is fairly simple. However, if the existing window is NARROWER than the french doors, THAT is a whole different ball game. (By width, I am referring to the rough opening size.)

Current width of window opening is 59" and top is 83" from floor. Door I am looking at requires (for new install) 62-1/4"W x 82"H

You have a major project on your hands! When you say "the width of the current window is 59" ", I am assuming that you have measured this on the inside of the house, from sheetrock to sheetrock. That would mean you have a rough opening of 60". This french door requires that opening to be 62-1/4". For all that would be involved to pick up that extra 2-1/4", you will be time and money, and work ahead to shop around for a french door set that will fit into a rough opening width of 60" or less. Otherwise, you are looking at replacing the header that is currently over the window with one that is longer, which will allow you to move the studs out to an opening of 62-1/4", dealing with the siding, probably resheetrocking the entire wall, ...
quote:
Originally posted by JInx:
