Ok...this is kinda silly, but I was attempting to replace the lock/latch on the inside of the sliding glass door and I dropped the new part down into the frame of the door. Now I would like to try to get this out...the only way that seems possible is to remove the sliding glass door, tilt the door in an almost upside down position and slide the part back down so I can grab it with a screwdriver. How do I go about removing the sliding glass door? Or is there a better way to get the part out of the frame? Thanks for any info you can relate to me!

I actually did this myself once. The way I retrieved the piece was that I purchased a (don't know what it's called) tool that looks like an old cordless phone antenna (pushes up and down) with a magnetized end. I then stuck this in the hole and got my part back. However if you are set on removing the door, you need to purchase two locking suction cups with handles, pushe them onto the door, lock them, then lift. The door has wheels that roll down the rails of the door frame, it lifts out like a closet door. Lift up and pull out the bottom of the door, then the top should follow. This is how I did it to replace my door, there may be another way, but I don't know it.

Good luck.

It may not be that easy and probably don't need suction cups ($70.00 ea). Try lifting up and out but I have found that in 90% of patio doors, you must remove the fixed panel first in order to remove the active door since they are removed from outside the house. What does the part cost? It might be worth buying a new part and not having to do all that work.
