The upper sash on my vinyl double hung window will not stay up on it's own. I'm sure there must be an adjustment in the spiral rods on the side of the window but I don't know the procedure. Can anyone help me on this?
Thanks.

I DIDN'T KNOW ANY VINYL WINDOWS USED TUBE BALANCERS WITH SPIRAL RODS-YOU MUST BE IN A PART OF THE COUNTRY I HAVEN'T WORKED IN.
THIS WILL BE DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN WITHOUT A DRAWING BUT I'LL TRY.
THE SPIRAL WILL PASS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE SASH AND HOOK INTO A CLIP ON THE BOTTOM BY MEANS OF A TINY HORIZONTAL PIN. THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL TO GRAB IT AND WIND IT UP BUT IF YOU HAVE VERY GOOD EYE\HAND COORDINATION, YOU CAN SUPPORT THE WINDOW AND GRAB THE SPIRAL TIP WITH NEEDLE NOSE LOCKING PLIERS GIVE IT A FEW TURNS TO INCREASE THE TENSION.OR YOU CAN CALL A LOCAL GLASS COMPANY TO DO IT. FIRST CHECK YOUR WARRANTY-MANY WINDOWS HAVE A LIFETIME GUARANTEE-WHICH WOULD MAKE THE SERVICE CALL FREE!

Thanks Wes. Does the spiral rod need to be turned clockwise or counter-clockwise for winding?
I'm in Michigan by the way. Also, does it matter if the spiral rod is fully extended or not extended while winding it?

EXTEND THE ROD ONLY AS FAR AS NECESSARY TO GET A GOOD GRIP-WIND CLOCKWISE,YOU WILL FEEL THE TENSION PULLING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.
I HAVE WORKED IN MICHIGAN A COUPLE OF DECADES AGO-BENTON HARBOR. BUT THAT JOB WAS RESTORATION OF SOME CHURCH WINDOWS,AN UNRELATED TYPE OF PROJECT.NOW I LIVE ON THE OREGON COAST. GOOD LUCK,
WES

Thanks for the help Wes. The adjustment worked great on the window. I wound the upper sash rods about 8 times and it works fine now. I also put some silicone spray along the guides where vinyl to vinyl contact is to make the window move easier. Problem solved.
