HERE'S A TOUGH ONE. I AM PLANNING TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL STEEL WINDOWS IN MY BASEMENT WITH VINYL WINDOWS. THE ROUGH OPENING IS IN A STONE FOUNDATION AND THERE IS NO WOOD FRAMING AROUND THE OPENING. A HEADER WAS USED IN THE ORIGINAL FRAMING AND ON THE SIDE OF THE OPENING WHERE THE STEEL WINDOWS ARE THERE ARE BRICKS. THERE IS NO BASE PLATE, INSTEAD THE WINDOWS SITS FLUSH ON THE STONE FOUNDATION. IS IT LIKELY THAT THE BRICK ARE TAKING THE PLACE OF THE CRIPPLE STUDS? AND, MAY I USE THE SAME FRAMING TECHNIQUE WITH THE VINYL WINDOWS.
