Is there a special technique... or will a big hammer work.... to remove a glass 6' slider? I am getting a wood replacement ready and thought who else but the 'pros' to ask before i start whacking away. Anything wrong with using SS screws to attach new door jamb with?

I'm not a pro, just a d-i-yer. Carefully remove the slider door, and do not break any glass. The slider frame should be screwed or nailed to the wood framing (installed from the outside). Remove any trim around it, check for and remove all screws and nails holding slider to frame. Remove. Now you can install your new door. Use shims to get its framing square, level and plumb. SS screws are fine. Good Luck!

Of course DIYer sometimes has a better 'feel' for translating an occasional (once or twice in a lifetime I hope) task into something fairly 'easy'! Thanks.

GOOD ADVISE-HERES A FEW THINGS I LEARNED OVER THE YEARS.
TO REMOVE THE STATIONARY SIDE OF THE SLIDER LOOK FOR SCREWS AT TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE CENTER VERTICAL AND ALSO ON THE INSIDE OF THE WALL JAMB, THESE ARE SOMETIMES DIFFICULT TO FIND.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A NAILING FIN ON YOUR NEW DOOR THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THE TRIM AND SIDING THAT COVER THE OLD NAILING FIN.JUST REMOVE THE INTERIOR TRIM-DRIVE A WRECKING BAR BETWEEN THE ALUMINUM FRAME AND THE TRIMMER STUDS AT THE MIDPOINT-PROTECT THE WALL WITH A SCRAP OF PLYWOOD-NOW YANK! THE OLD ALUMINUM FIN WILL TEAR AWAY AT THE NAIL HOLES. AS YOU WORK YOUR WAY AROUND THE OLD FRAME WILL COLLAPSE OUT OF THE HOLE.
