We are finally going to do it, but how do you decide? What are the most important features in replacment vinyl windows? Welded, foam insulation? It's so confusing. Everyone says they're the best. Can anyone offer any advice before we take the plunge? Thank you in advance.

Look at the warranties and compare them Specifically, how long is the frame warranted for against cracking, discoloring and distorting? How long is the IG unit warranted for against leaking and fogging up?

As for welded corners versus butt joined corners, go with the welded corners. A butt jointed corner is just one more place for a leak to develop.

Foam-filled? Why? The vinyl itself will provide a terrific thermal break. Ask the see a cross-section of the windows frame. The more honey-combing of vinyl inside the frame, the stronger the frame, and the less likely it will be for it to warp or distort. Some mfgrs. rely on the use of foam to provide this extra strength. Does that mean the foam is stronger than their vinyl???
