Can anyone tell me how to get varnish of glass,already tried turps.

Varnish and polys harden to a plastic coating and usually can't be touched with turp or paint thinner.
A paint stripper that will remove varnish or poly should work.
But if you've only got a litlte to remove, try a razor blade scraper (in one of those hand holders). Used at a low angle it should not scratch the glass. Is it a window, mirror, or what?

Thanks,it is on paynes of glass on a new door in the lounge,dad put tape round it ,but he did't put the tape right over the edge so the varnish has just gone on the side of the glass.

Trim with razor blade. Conventional paint stripper will etch glass.
