this is a kenmore gas range mod #911-7299180, the glow igniter and gas safety valve are new. when you push bake after setting temp. the relay on the contol panel circuit board clicks the igniter glows for a few seconds the goes out after the relay clicks back off.by repeatetly pushing the bake button the igniter will stay on long enough for burner to come on but goes out after a few seconds, the relay clicks back off then too. the themistat reads about 880 ohms cold.

Hello gofnuut and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances forum.

Based on the problem description, if I am reading it correctly, the push button may be defective. The fact that you have to push it repeatedly most likely indicates it is not holding.

Should be an easy part to determine if it is operating correctly. Turn off the power and test it with a continutiy tester.

Another possiblity could be the solenoid in the gas valve. Pushing in the button is sending current to the ignitor. When it reaches ignition temperature the gas valve opens. If the gas valves solenoid fails it shuts off power to the valve and gas stops flowing.

Always a possibility the main circuit board has a defective circuit or componet. May have to remove the board and have it tested.

As with any other electronic appliance, they are always a complex appliance with electrical circuits, safety devices and componets. Ovens are like any other electronic items, many may not be a do-it-yourself project for the non professional.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts.

They can perform tests and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

what I mean't by repeatedly pushing the bake button was that it would reset the circuit that turns the relay on, and eventually open the valve and allow the burner to come on for a few seconds until the relay clicks off after not pushing the bake button. I am pretty sure the problem is in the electronics, but I thought maybe there might be something else. like I said the gas valve and and igniter are new. I am pretty sure I could repair the electronics (since that is what I do) if a person could get schematics, and parts I can check most of the parts but the ICS maybe a problem

Hello: gofnuut

Pushing the "Bake" button is exactly what I meant. The "Bake" button could be defective and not holding the setting. The button may not be staying closed, if that is how it operates.

Checking this button may reveal the problem and may be the problem solution. For a schematics of the electronics, check with the dealers in your area.

The dealers may or service agents will have the schematics on their service referrence computers. Very possible they would be willing to share the info and print you a copy as a good service principle or gesture to you. Ask.

Most circuit boards contain commonly used and replaceable parts. These electronic parts and some componets are often available in electronic parts supply stores.

Since you're able and knowledgeable in electronics and have the abilities to test parts and componets, these stores can provide the replacement parts.
