I have a GE XL44 Self Cleaning Gas Range. 1993 Serial Number# GM240658P. Model Number# JGBP34GE3WH. My owners manual shows gas knobs and such, mine has push button displays with an LCD Window to set the bake timer, and bake mode via the up and down buttons.
This is my question: My son was baking a pizza and accidently moved the oven door latch. The oven turned off and when we went to the panel to select Bake, the display says Door. It will not bake or broil. I set the oven for self cleaning, thinking that it may have been activated, since the door latch is only for cleaning. I cleaned the oven and it lit to clean and did a good job, lol. But it will not bake. I have turned off the breaker to try and reset the curcuit, for 1/2 hour. Still it says door. I have turned the oven on with the door open and it always has worked, so why does the door show up on the display. I have took the door off and put it back on and to no avail. No Bake. Please help! Bake-less in Myrtle Beach, and oven about to go out the Door.

Hello seastar and Welcome to the Do It Yourself Web Site and my Gas Appliances forum.
The latching device inside the ovens locking device is a tiny micro switch. When this switch is closed the panel will display the door open notice.
It's very possible this tiny switch is stuck in the closed position. To determine this, trun off the electrical power or unplug the appliance. Than remove the ovens paneling to access the doors locking device.
On some modles the locking device must be accessed through the front glass panel. Either way the switch must be exposed so you can unlock it. Before attempting to unlock it, notice what is holding it so as not to have to apply any force to release it.
It's also very possible the door lock isn't even working. Try locking the dorr and verify if in fact the door is locked. It may appear to be but really isn't.
In this case the lever lock on the door or the actual lever in the door may be bent or damaged. Inspect these parts also. In some cases the locking device can be freed or the micro switch released without removing anything. One just needs to determine how the locking device works to release it.
In other cases the main circuit board may be the culprit or any selection switch which controls the functions of the oven.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
