I have a problem with my two year old Kenmore Elite gas dryer (Model # 110-70982990). When I press the start button, a loud humming noise occurs and then stop automaticly in a couple of seconds without the dryer starting up. If I try to start it again, something the same loud noise occurs and other times I just hear a clicking sound. Either way, after a few tries, I smell a strange odor. Smells like burning something - Can't really discribe it. OK, this is the strange part. Something if I leave it alone for a while, it will start up and work for I while, with a quieter hum. I took apart the entire dryer last week, everything look fine and clean. The rollers looked ok. I took the motor out, it looked ok. I don't really know how to check it. Besides looking at it. There was no lint build up anywhere. Could it be the motor or belt? Or anything else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello andrade. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

If you looked at all the parts contained within the dryer cabinet and did not see anything unusual, draging, burning, scrapping etc. it would be very difficult for me to statement is likely to be the problem.

The fact that this problem is accompied by a smell of something burning could mean the drum is dragging on something or as a result of something jamming it. The belt could be the problem as well as the motor.

Difficult to say without specific information. Same applies to occassionally happening problems. Check the existing questions and the replies offered within the forum on dryers with like or similar problems.

Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.

An excellent source for orginal replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store. Appliance parts dealers test and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store. The info will help to determine the exact parts used in the model assembly line run and possible problem causes.

DRYER SERVICE TIP:
It's always adviseable to clean the entire exhaust venting system every 2 years and or during any dryer maintenance and or repairs.
