I searched the forums and can not find a previously posted problem with my exact details. Please Help!
We have a gas furnace (model: GMP050-3) that appears to have an ignition failure. The fan starts and the electric heating element comes on. It goes through 2 cycles in an attempt to light but fails. The gas valve is on. I do not hear any clicks like other users have described. I've read other posts that suggest a problem like this is a dirty flame sensor, bad ignitor, or blocked vent. Please help diagnose the most likely problem. Thanks!

newhomeowners:
I will defer an answer to someone more experienced with your type of furnace.
In the meantime you have read about the sensor. ignitor, vent possibilities and should be doing a search on these items to learn more.
It is unlikely that we can send you straight to the part that has failed.
You will need some mechanical and electrical ability to diagnose the problem with only a few hints from us.
Call a service tech before the pipes freeze.

I wish I could just call someone to repair it but I just spent over 1k to have a gas leak repaired. If it's something like cleaning the flame sensor then I prefer to do it myself. I will search for detailed instructions on how to clean the flame sensor again and check for blocks in the vent. In the meantime, any additional suggestions would be of great help.

check to see if you are getting 24 volts to the gas valve. if so, replace the valve, if not the board. have replaced many of these boards.

thank you for your reply. we have been working on this all day.
the error light blinks one time, which the panel indicates is a ignition failure. currently trying to clean the flame sensor. how do i check the voltage?

We cleaned the flame sensor and it fired right up! We also cleaned a ground wire which was fairly dirty. I don't know which one actually did the trick but it works and that's all that counts now. Thanks for all the suggestions, I learned a lot!
