Can you use PVC pipe to vent a gas dryer rather than the foil tubing?

No.
You should use rigid metal tubing with metal elbows. Tape the joints, don't use metal screws to attach piece together.

Why? Just curious - moisture or heat concerns ??
I'm looking to re-route my gas dryer vent - the PVC would be atleast 5 or 6 feet from the dryer and lead outside. I would still be using metal tubing from the dryer to the PVC pipe.
Thanks.

Heat, PVC plumbing is not allowed in many, many areas because just the temp of hot water causers it it sag...but it's really more of a code thing with me.
The only work I do with gas dryers requires metal ducting. This is also commercial work, so residential requirments may be more lax in what can be installed.
