Insulation, Radiant and Vapor Barriers - attic wall insulation???

I am a first time homeowner. the house my wife and i purchased is fairly old (~50 years) and the insulation in the attic is fiberglass and in poor condition. the attic is unfinished and used for storage. i have started to replace the insulation in the floor of the attic (between the floor joices). there is also exposed fiberglass insulation attached to the walls.

my question is: is the insulation on the walls of an unfinished attic necessary??? i was told by my home inspector that it is not necessary. i figured that if i'm going to be replacing the floor insulation that i might as well replace the wall insulation at the same time if there is a purpose for wall insulation. should i replace it or remove it? i would like to get a second opinion.

Insulation goes between a heated and unheated area. Because heat rises out of the living area of your home, insulation on the attic floor helps prevent the heat loss. The insulation stops the upward flow of the heat rising out of your home.
