How high should the flames be from the face of the burners?
I had a tech change the gas valve. To my eyes the flames are very high, about four or five inches in hight. I am having the plumber's senior egineer take a look at the flame.
It's a Weil-Mclain gas boiler with standing pilot.
Thanks in advance ...

Raulman:
The height of the flame is only one component of setting up a burner.
Please read the Before Posting announcement and come back if you need more info.

I read the post as you suggested. I am not sure if you want me to add additional info or search other previously asked postings or go to the manufacturers website. I have done what's listed above before asking the question.
Weil Mclain, e-4-b, series1, gas steam boiler
I am just looking for advise ...

Hello Raulman:
The information that I was looking for was the model and capacity of the boiler and whether steam or water.
I personally don't know what the flame characteristics are.
It would take someone intimately familiar with your unit.
Flame height would vary greatly between different boilers.
If your not satisfied with the senior tech's explanation, the manufacturer may be willing to help.

Thanks for your reply ...
Weil-Mclain sent me a manual. The manual says 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch above the burner.
That seems low to me, but who am I, a Network Engineer (computers), what do I know. My wife cooks with a flame higher than that ... lol
I am just trying to save money.

i would check the gas pressure and the burner itself for corroded openings allowing too much flow.

That space is not the distance from the burner tray to the top of the flame. It is the distance from the tray to where the flame starts. The flame should be mostly blue with red/yellow dancing through the tips.bb
