What is the national average pricing on drywall installation, say, per Square Foot? Standard residential application. I've heard drywallers in the past say, "I charge blankity blank" a square foot! Just looking for a basic price info to complete an article I'm writing.

There are too many variables left out. Access, quantity, room size, wall height, flat ceiling, etc.. Also, regional prices for residential work vary way too much for any meaningful price comparison. If you are not ready to get actual bids, try one of the reps at the Home Depot.

In paraphrase to Bugalow Jeff's statement, you'll be hard pressed to get a national avg for drywall installation. It has everything to do with the environment of the installation, plus supply and demand. I think that you might find local averages at best, but pricing is subject to all those things Jeff mentioned.
For example, I live in a small town. There are two or three quality hangers/finishers here. Lot of work available. Average price per square foot is about 90 cents.
There are also some hacks out there trying to compete. The work is bad, but the price is attractive. About 45 cents square foot.
A good finisher understands how to use the drywall knife more than the sander.
