have a propane furnace w/central air. here's problem. Furnace and air both work great. problem!!??? they won;'t shut off!!! replaced thermostate at the wall. no help. when furnace is turned on at the switch it activates the air conditioning unit.(fan) but it does heat. It just won't shut off. neither will the air. had to disconnect the air unit. but furnace will not shut off unless you shut off the switch at the furnace, looks like a light switch. could this be the problem??? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello boobug. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic & our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
I am not an air conditioning service person but I am a heating professional, so I can help you with the heater. Hopefully, in doing so it can resolve the problem.
We have to have a starting point to determine where the exact problem lies. The first few steps must be done. Do this regardless of the fact that the T-Stat was just replaced.
To first determine if the thermostat wiring is at fault, disconnect it from the wiring at the wall. Than connect only the heater wires together. They should be the red and white wires.
If the same problem exists, the thermostat is not the problem. If it cures the problem, the thermostat is the problem. In either case above, note the results so we can progress further. Use the REPLY button to post back all results.
If the fan only remains ON, most likely the problem is the fan switch. The fan I am referring to is the heaters blower fan and not the outside air conditioning fan. Only the heater fan.
If the burners & the heaters fan both remain on, like the thermostat were turned way up high in temp, than thats yet another problem. I need to know exactly what happens.
