Going to replace wood sgl pane windows and aluminum siding on my 1961 split level house. Installing Andersen tilt windows and vinyl siding. I have aluminum siding over some type of composite siding over a composite sheeting. The queston is should I remove the aluminum siding and and composite siding and then install windows and then vinyl siding or just remove aluminum siding then install windows and vinyl siding over composite siding?

Clayton: It is hard to correctly answer that question at this time. You will have to do a test. Pick a window, maybe on the back of your house, cut off the siding about 3 feet around your window, then you can see how deep you will have to get in order to replace the windows. You may have to take off a layer of composite, then take another look. At some point you will reach the window frame or surround. At this point you can replace the windows. If you do not go into this point, you will have to build out your window frames. Remember, you will need at least 1/2 around the windows so your new siding does not stick out around them. You also have to have room for your channel around the window for your siding to fit into. Good Luck
