In the house we just bought we have a small (5x8) bathroom. It's tiled on the floor (small black & white), gaudy green tiles on the walls, an old tub, sink & toilet. I'm thinking of pretty much ripping everything out & starting fresh. Questions:

1. I've never done wall tile work. I'm thinking of knocking out existing tile w/ a hammar & hiring a professional to re-tile. The house has plaster walls. If I tear out the old tile, do I need to do anything to the walls to prep them? The tile has probably been in place at least 30-50 years.

2. I'm going to replace the sink (w/ cabinet), the toilet, tub & fixtures. Also I'll lay down some vinyl flooring. Asuming that I've cleaned out the bathroom (no tile on walls, not tub, etc.). What order would you recommend I do things? I'm thinking 1) new tub, 2) tile, 3) sink (& counter), vinyl & then toilet, followed by fixtures. That make sense? Or shoud the tile be done before the tub?

Thanks!

The process you described would be the way to procede. I would do the tile after the tub is installed - too much risk of damage. Basically do all your walls, ceilings, painting before you do the floor.

Hope the links help!
