I am installing 3/16 maple wood veneer to kitchen cabinet sides; the cabinets sides are the standard particle board with a laminate. is contact cement the prefered choice?

If the manufacturer of the veneer did not specify otherwise, then contact cement might be the very thing. 3/16" veneer is some robust stuff. I don' t think that I have ever seen any.

3/16 veneer is pretty hefty. It tends to be not very flat. I've done this before with contact cement, but be prepared to devise a method of clamping the veneer to the cabinet, with as even of pressure along the veneered area. Let the contact set up more than the manufacturers stated setup time, before unclamping. Overnight, if possible.

I try not to do it often, but it does work.

Thanks.
I went ahead and used contact cement;
works fine but like you said I had to lay a ton of weight on it to keep it down; I also used every clamp I had.

contrary to what I was told by the store-I can say It was a good idea to have done this before the cabinets were installed.
