I am installing 3/16 maple wood veneer to kitchen cabinet sides; the cabinets sides are the standard particle board with a laminate. is contact cement the prefered choice? what do you recommend?

Handy, You need to check in with the kitchen or the furniture finishing or the decorating forum cause this is a flooring kinda place. If the cabinets are now completely laminated with HPL contact cement is probably your only option and 3/16 plywood is probably NOT your best choice of an overlay. A veneer with a 3M PSA back might be a better way to go, and a forum that deals with kitchen remodel a better place. Good Luck with your project.
