I've been restoring floors, fireplace mantles etc. professionally for about 30 years. I would like to hear more pros and cons on sealing the underside of NEW flooring before installation.

Check out the website at www.Floormasters.com. They just were discussing sealing the under side of maple and white birch, sand and finish floors. Are you considering this as a alternative to using a vapor barrier under the wood, or over the crawl space of the home. Seems awfully labor intensive to me. I would rather cover the crawl space, in most cases, but I live in an area where you can usually walk under the joists. :)

Thankyou, I'll check out the site. The sealing would actually be in addition to a vapor barrier, The winters here can be fairly cruel. Thanks again!
