I have the above listed rear projection 45" tv that I purchased new in 1992. A couple weeks ago it started turning itself off after a few seconds after I turn it on. After a week or so of that, it now will repeatedly turn itself off - occasionally staying on after a few iterrations. In all cases, once it decides to stay on for more than a few seconds, it will stay on indefinitely until I turn it off.

I'm fairly technically inclined, but have never had the need to work on a TV of any kind. I'm wondering a few things:

1) Any idea what the problem could be with my TV?
2) Is it something a novice repair-person could tackle without a huge time/$$ comittment (i.e. - is it worth it to do it myself)?
3) If I decide to take it in to a repair shop or have someone come to my house to fix it, what should I expect to pay? I just want to know that the quote I get is in the ball park of reason and I'm not getting taken advantage of.

Thanks in advance,
dboockho

Chances are yuo have some bad copper traces around the "rivits" near the power transformer.
You will need to "jump out" the traces with some wire to make a positive connection.
If you call a pro expect to pay about $250 for the job, and at 10 years old it might be worth looking at some of the new HDTV's
