Single horizontal line in middle of screen. Can a non-technician fix or is it complicated? Model SC3809, date of manufacture Nov 1998.

You will need some experience, the ability to read a digital voltmeter. And be able to unsolder and solder. There are massive voltages in there that could feasibly kill if your heart is weak but most certainly they can injure you. If the set is less than five years old I would have it repaired, older then five to six I would say replace it. And stay away from the all in ones like this. You have lost everything because of one failure. By the way this is a high voltage failure, I am not a TV tech but this could be several things all of which requires some experience to be able to repair. Mike…

I agree with the bigmike on the safety issues and the all-in-one type electronics being crap and a pain to work on. I believe this is a 9" TVCR AC/DC combo and still sells for $170+.
Check or replace the vertical IC LA7837 and the caps or resistors that feed it.
