I’m in the process of shopping for new kitchen cabinets; the old cabinets are shot. Does anyone have recommendations for good quality stock kitchen cabinets? Where can I purchase these?

Thanks in advance!

Brick.b,

Well...there is always Home Depot and Lowes! Try them out and see what you like. Alternative is to seek some costs from Kitchen and Bath stores.

Don't forget to ask about cabinets that have been returned due to custiomer disatisfaction, i.e. wrong color or style. Sometimes you may get a good deal on these types of returns as long as they have all that you need! You could save big $$$$.

Hope this helps!

Shop around and compare apples to apples when purchasing cabinets. Countertops are usually priced separately. Ask about installation and delivery costs. Price the total package.

I have just installed Ikea cabinets and they look great. They were easy to assemble and have very good hardware and MUCH better designs and styles than most of the common brands. Hopefully there will be a store near you. You can call them for a catalog and can order them on the phone. Their website is surprisingly bad and unhelpful.

If you can measure and draw your kitchen floor plan, showing door openings, windows, sink and stove locations, you can shop for the exact cabinet sizes that will fit your kitchen design
Write down the dimensions on your 'floor plan'
Opening sizes, room width etc. Then go to Home Depot with this drawing and let them run it through their computer system. They will generate
a computerized plan view of your kitchen ...with
exact cabinet dimensions. Dimensions may vary somewhat brand to brand, however , you will be able to get a cost range say in the different styles of Craftmade cabinets.
If you prefer the smaller cabinet maker type
then take the Home Depot generated plan
to the local 'little guy' and see if he can match the Home Depot price.
good luck

As adivised, shop and compare apples to apples. Look at the total cost of the package deal. Some dealers will factor in the cost of installation and counter. Others will not. Take everything into perspective when shopping. Give a small kitchen dealer a break, you will most of the time find that they iwill give you a break, too.

I just ordered new cabinets from a (little guy). I got a home kitchen planner from Lowes and took it to them after I drew out my kitchen. They did the computer plan and gave me a price. I then took the plan to a (little guy) and she redid the plan and gave me a lot better price. Nicer cabinets and three weeks faster delivery time.

I have not recieved the cabinets yet another two or three weeks, I can't wait. I was impressed with everything about the (little guy) and saved over $2000.00 on the cabinets. They are all wood, Hickory no particle board. Unlike Lowes which had particle board sides. They ordered them from a large cabinet manufacture like Lowes would have. Just a different company. I did opt for the best cabinets they make costing a bit more but worth the extra cost, at liest to me.

"Unlike Lowes which had particle board sides."

Most of the semi custom cabinets (Kraftmaid, Thomasville etc.) sold by the big box stores are available with plywood boxes instead of particle board.

Cabinet materials, construction and workmanship vary considerably. Price is not the only factor when comparison shopping. Like somebody said "you have to compare apples to apples".

all maunfactures of cabinets have low end cabinets to high end cabinets. it is all in what your budget will allow. i have installed many kraftmaid cabinets that look nice from the front and are junk inside. then i have also installed kraftmaid cabinets that are of a top quality materails. you must becarefull of what you are buying. just because you get a better price from someplace else does not mean you are getting a good deal!!!!!!!.

now a work of advice from a cabinet installer, if you have a company like home depot or lowes design your kitchen and do the layout be prepaired for problems. i have yet to install a kitchen designed buy these companys that works and has all the trim pieces, fillers, panels with grain going in the corrct direction, ect, needed to finish the job

" ... if you have a company like home depot or lowes design your kitchen and do the layout be prepaired for problems."

I am not a fan of Big Orange, but I had them do the layout for my kitchen. They weren't my first choice. The guy they sent to measure my layout was a real pro. He took 3-4 hours to get the measurements. The "designer" also spent hours with us and was a real help with color and material selection. He also saved us some money by finding some discounts. I could not be happier than te job the HD guys did. everything fit exactly as planned. There was no tweaking required.

I can't say the same for the cabinet manufacturer. Lots of problems with missing parts, damaged pieces and a real attitude by their customer service people.
