:( :(
I have a Zenith 50" projection TV.. A50M84W1 made 9/98. Last night I was watching a program with the wife and heard a loud "POP" from the TV, then the video went. Still has sound and it sounds normal like always, but no video. TV worked great until last night.
What went wrong, how do I replace it, and where do I get it?
Tried to order a service manual from Union but they don't have any. Any other sources?
I'm pretty technical and good with my hands working on things. Never did a TV yet, but did fix a washer, PCs, and some plumbing around the house.
Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

This is a very common problem with zenith and expensive. Number 1 cause is the flyback shorting causing the H.O.T. and a power suuply diode to short. Sometimes though the focus block can fail which also takes out the H.O.T. and diode. Parts costs are very high.

I removed the back panel and turned the TV on. Didn't see any lights or anything lit in the back. TV did turn on and I do get very good sound out of it.
I'm going to order the service manual this week. I'm wondering if it is something that I can tackle with the manual.
I've read several threads on this same issue here. Doesn't seem
to be like a big deal in replacing parts.

morgan28476 is right, that 9-1978 power supply/sweep module was a real pain. I've only done one so far and that ones was electrical surge damaged.
Tech Tip as follows:
1)Set comes on with sound but no raster./ Qx3200(H.O.T.)#121-1167 and Crx3412(B+rectifier diode)[Located by smps transformer on edge of module]#nte580. Could be caused by H.V. block#A-17196-12 or bad flyback.
