The screen of my 6 year old JVC has gone black. Two days ago it it went black except for a thin bright white line in the middle of the screen. Not being a tv repair man, I whapped the tv twice and the screen came back normal...with good picture. Tonight it went black and tapping did not help....white line is gone...sound is normal. Any ideas.

Sounds like your problem is cracked solder joints in the vertical circuit Possible at the vertical output I.C. .
