We bought a used house. The owner provided us with one garage door opener (GDO) transmitter. It works great. Since we have two cars, we just bought a second one (same company, same model). When we programmed the second one, it worked great. Then we discovered that #1 had stopped working. We can't seem to get both working at the same time, although either works fine when programmed independently. This also seems to negatively affect the operation of the external, mounted GDO keypad.

We don't have the manual for the GDO (Craftsman), what do you recommend? Also, can you recommend a source for buying quality GDO spring oil? Thanks,

Seems to be a common problem with Craftsman openers. Mine is about 3 years old and originally worked from two remotes and a keyless. First failure was only two items would work, now only 1 can be programmed so the only thing working is the keyless. This has come across the forum before so I suspect it's a universal problem on these openers. I haven't bothered trying to get it fixed as the repair would likely cost as much as a new opener. My next opener will be a different brand.

Since Liftmaster/Chamberlain make the Craftsmen openers, Genie is your only other option.

You could always add an external option, like the Street Smart key FOB. This would connect to the GDO just like your push button. When you press a button on the key chain, it activates a relay (similar to pushing the button) raising or lowering the door. There are many similar products out there. If you want more info, feel free to e-mail or PM.
I use the ITI Quickbridge receiver on my GDO at my apartment, since I also have an ITI Concord system installed, only one remote that way.

Good tip, safe; didn't know there was a band-aid fix available and I'm real tired of only being able to use the keyless pad. Do you have sources for the "band-aids"?

Several. Like I say, the one I use is the ITI model. But Street Smart makes them, Visonic, Linear. They are all basically alarm products, used for arming/disarming systems, adding zones, etc. But since they all support button remotes and come with a Form C relay, they can be used with anything that used a N/O or N/C loop, like garage door openers. If you're interested, e-mail me and I'll let you know what I can do.

All of these products use a wireless receiver (where the relay is built-in) and a keyfob or transmitter of some kind. You can easily get a receiver and 2 keychains for less than $100. Some for about $70.
