My 7 year old Toshiba 55 inch projection TV Model TP55E51 suddenly died.
No picture, only sound. Freddy (or bigmike), I realize there is a number of things that can cause this failure but if you can point out the notorious ones it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you much,
GLanos

I’m really not into TV guy, I know about enough to get into trouble. My field was broadcast and consumer grade audio, cameras, CD, microwave etc. But to me this sounds like a high voltage failure. We’ll have to wait for Freddy to come by to get any more in depth than that.

Tech Tip as follows:

1)Shutdown./Check stk392-110(convergence i.c.'s) A good to test is to remove P712(wire connection on the convergence board and fuse F580.)If television comes on it will have bad convergence.

2)Dead./Check for cracked red crt, or bad yoke. Bad vertical i.c. (LA7833) will also shutdown the television.

I had the same problem with the same set and replaces the STK 392 op amps and the fuse on the convergence board. When the fuse goes, the op amps go also. For 50 bucks I have a awesome picture now.
