Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Paint overspray on hardwood floor

A previous homeowner sprayed paint on the walls without covering the floor. The floor is beautifully finished except for the overspray. How can I remove the overspray or will I need to refinish the entire floor?

Don't know if this will help, but. Automotive stores sell 'ClayBar' kits that allow you to scour the heck out of the paint, without damaging the clearcote.

I've used a claybar to clean overspray on my truck, and have used it to clean the countertops in the kitchen and in all the bathrooms.

The clay has no abrasives, and may work for your floors. If it worked on my car, and actualy removed swirl marks, it won't damage your poly!

If the paint is latex, and it likely is indoors. Mineral spirits will dissolve the wax on the floor and enable you to wipe up the paint spatters along with it. Mineral spirits will not damage the finish on the floor. A minimally abrasive scrubbing pad such as a tuffy pad for scouring teflon coated pans might help. It is not so abrasive as to damage the finish.

If your wooden floor is finished with polyurethane, then you could use lacquer thinner to dissolve the latex paint without damaging the floor.

Car finishes are much harder than household finishes.
