I have an idea for a fake bookcase door, I saw this type of thing used on a dresser converted to an entertainment center. My problem, the door I want to construct will be approximately 5 to 6" thick. Fake shelves on top and a wanescoat at the bottom to match the rest of the wall. The top of the bookcase door to be trimmed out in 2 1/2 or 3" casing. Sheetrock on the wall at the top. The door must open out into the room, since the closet space is only 30" deep. I need to know if there's some sort of hinge that will allow me to do this and not be exposed, so that the bookcase-door looks like a book-case and not an opening?
any ideas? thanks!!

tunnelrat,
I can't quite picture what type of hinge you need, but if you go to Rockler.com and search on hinges you should find something that will work.

Hi,
Try this out. Go to www.google.com In the search box type in "concealed hinges" It will take yousome time to go through the results. You can then decide what you will need, as you know about the door size and the weight that the hinges will have to support. Neat idea.
Good luck,
Trent

Pivot hinges should fill the bill for what you want to do. They're mountd at the top and bottom of the door from the side (closet). They're invisible from the outside.

They're available from
