I want to put up some crown moulding and I just got a compound miter saw. I have never done crown moulding before and I figured it would be simple... Obviously, it's not a 45 degree angle I should be cutting for the corners... What is the proper angle/techinique I should use to cut crown for just your simple right angled corners??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

45 should work for the outside corners.
For inside corners, cut one at 90 to the wall, and the other at 45 and cut the 45 part off with a coping saw to fit against the contour of the crown molding with the 90.
It takes a little practice, and probably some minor "attitude adjustment" on the backside of the angles with a sharp utility knife.
Try it on scrap first until you get the hang of it.
Good Luck!
Mike

Hi,
This might give you some help, go to the Dewalt site;
www.dewalt.com When the page appears click on the tab
"woodworking". The next screen click on the title, "articles"
When you have the next screen, scroll down the index title
"pro's page" until you see "cutting crown molding with a Dewalt
miter saws. Click on it, and scroll down through it.
Hope this gives you some help, although I beleive that most crown molding, as mentioned in other replies is most likely back cut, or "coped". The library is also a good source of info for miter cutting.
Good luck,
Trent

At compoundmiter.com they have some good info for novices although they are trying to sell their measuring device.

Of course if your miter saw is large enough you can cut the crown "in place" and it becomes relatively easy.

I bought 2 books on finish carpentry from amazon and they are worth there weight in gold to me.
