I have some (free) 3/4" oak tongue & groove flooring I am going to use for a dining room. The widths vary from 3" to as wide as 6". What is the best method to attach the wider boards? Will nailing through the tongue be sufficient?

All I can say is it doesn't hurt to use more nails than you would ordinarily use. Instead of nailing every 6-8 inches increase it to 3-4 inches. Maybe Phil has some tips for you as he deals with much wider types of flooring than I.
