I am considering installing Bamboo Hardwood Flooring throughout my house. My preference is to install pre-finished flooring so I don't have to go through the initial sanding and finish process.

My concern is that the floor will not be sealed properly in the kitchen area because of the prefinished wood. Is bamboo more or less susceptible to water damage and is there anything that can be applied over the prefinished wood to seal it after installation.

Do you have any bad experiences with bamboo?

Why Bamboo....I know it is the newest thing out and all but is it really worth it or practical. There are many other choices that look just as good and have a proven track record.

To answer your questions.......You can apply several different types of Floor sealer to avoid any moisture problems. Polyeurathane would be your best choice in my opinion.

Bamboo will NOT be any more or less suseptible to water. Once the floor is in, apply the poly, let dry and you will be good to go.

Best of luck,

Marc:

I'm going to have to disagree on this one. I've been dealing with bamboo floors since 1995 and they are surprisingly quite resistant to water. In fact I did one repair where a dishwasher had a slight water line leak and there were no visible signs of damage except for discoloring of the material itself.

Actually it appeared this had been going on for months. After I removed some boards there was standing water underneath. Cupping? You would think so. Not in the least.

I suspect much may have to do with the material selection itself as this one came from a manufacturer that seals everything and that includes the bottom side. Today, one has to be very careful with bamboo floor selections as it is a very hot flooring option and everyone and their uncle seems to want a piece of the action.
