Hi, I have a liquid proprane line running out to my residental 25 by 28' garage that I just built. I'm in MA. Can somebody recommend what type of heater I should buy to keep the garage at like 55 degrees all winter, or maybe a heater to just turn on when I'm out there? What's out there for liquid proprane and where can I buy it? Thanks!

One of the best I have found is get and old furnace a company has taken out that still works ok and the people just want to up grade. They have a blower and it dont take long to kick up the heat when you go out there,or let it on low. No duct work just some kind of head. you said LP. How big of line do you have going out there or where is the tank?I have put whats called a little joe reg. at the tank and T the line like to the home and to the garage and put A large reg. at the home and one at the garage. This way you will have a good 11.5" WC on the gas.Id also put them up some off the ground so snow dont block the vent on the reg.;) ED

if you use a used furnace as ed suggested, be sure it is set up for propane, or have it converted. have seen units set up for natural running on propane. excellent suggestion from ed, by the way

Lowe's sells a wall hanging non-vented space heater for LPG.

which can be fired at either 15,000 or 30,000 Btuh they have a open flame type or the more expensive ceramic Glo - Radiant type
These work great and are about 100% efficient. If you go with a furnace you probably should vent it to the outside however I have one in my garrage and do not have it vented and have had no problems. Un-vented you get about 100% efficient results.

I dont think 30,000 BTU will cut it for him way up north in MA.
with the furnace you will get a big blower .This will help move the air around and give you a better pick up on heat if its been off.
Also with some kind of head on the furnace you can blow the air where you want . The flue vent dont cost much and you should have one there.DONT KNOW ABOUT CODE THERE.
Here with a gas unit in a garage LP OR Nat gas You have to have the flame box up 24" or more up off the floor. This is for any gasolene fumes. We set the furnace on a metal box with just a filter in it for a low cold air return, put a plenum open like one side and some blades there that we can aim where we want. and thats it;) ED ARROW I'D SURE VENT THAT THING

You're right Ed 30,000 is light for up there but I think he said he only wanted to keep it at about 55 degrees so 30K might do it.
I like the wall hanging non-vented units because they are so efficient and easy to install, but I don't know if the codes there or here would allow their use in a garrage. For my own stuff I never ask.
