Hi,
The first thing is that my fireplace doors don't fit tight. Should there be some sort of gasket on them ?
The next problem I am have is that whenever I open the doors a lot of smoke bellows out into the room. The chimney is clear and clean.
If you have any ideas............!!

Like most all modern homes, it is probably too airtight for energy efficiency for a fireplace to draft properly until the chimney gets really heated up.
Crack a window in the room that the fireplace is in to give it air to help prevent backdraft.
Yes, the fireplace doors can be insulated next to the brick behind the framing. They're not going to be airtight in any case.
Good Luck!
