My husband and I removed a wall separating the kitchen from the living room, and have replaced it with an archway, leaving the ends of the old wall in place to hide the electrical wires. We built the archway, and have done LOTS of mudding, sanding, mudding, sanding...you know the drill. We have never done this before and found this site quite useful....Now we have to paint. What kind of prep work do I need to do to this wall before painting?
Any input would be helpful.

I guess you have it sanded as smooth as you like. Vacuum up all the dust. Next a coat of PVA primer, and two coats of top quality acrylic latex paint. Fire up the stereo, and enjoy.
