I am considering finishing a basement room to use as a workshop. Walls and floor are poured concrete. I am looking at using rigid foam insulation for the walls, but am confused about how to wire the walls. I have seen where 2x3's are used with grooved 2 inch rigid board, giving you about a half inch clearance for wires, but how are electrical boxes fitted and how is drywall attached along the top and bottom?

The best advice for you, but not the least expensive, is to frame with 2x4 just like it were a standing wall anywhere else.

You could still use the ridgid foam or fiberglass batting. Electrical boxes fit perfectly. Wiring runs right where it needs to be.

We will be framing a custom home this spring which has 2 adjacent concrete walls. The homeowner wants those two walls to be framed as described above, and for the same reasons.
