Needing to replace my concrete patio and most of my driveway, what questions should I be asking the bidding contractors. Rebar size, concrete mix, drainage issues , etc, - specifically what do I need in these areas to insure an excellent job done. I'm the type that prefers to pay a little extra to insure a job is done as best as possible, rather than just doing it cheap as possible and suffering sooner. In Chicago right now it's in the 70's mostly but cooling off fast - can I still do this work this season or should I wait for spring. Approx. 70 % of the driveway NEEDS to be done, should I just do it 100 % or just replace whats needed? The main reason for doing the patio is water drainage control, forget about jacking, will a contractor guarantee his finished job regarding the movement of the rain water? One contractor told me he could concrete replace the patio ABOVE the foundation into the brick of my house, I didn't think one could go above the foundation ? yes - no ? sorry for so many questions - please help - thnx Buster

Hi BusterHymen
Some questions are hard to answer without a look. Is floor or surface? Which is the thickness? What type of concrete?
"Approx. 70 % of the driveway NEEDS to be done, should I just do it 100 % or just replace whats needed?" I suggest better 100% or to separate the areas. Concrete never glues OK with concrete, unless you use "chemical glue".
"One contractor told me he could concrete replace the patio ABOVE the foundation into the brick of my house, I didn't think one could go above the foundation" . Why not?
Good luck!

We try to answer the questions in the best way. Sometimes, it is hard to give advice without give a look, especially to fix concrete. I am a responsible professional, so I don't give advice if I am not sure

I never said I "didn't like your answer", I just felt it was a response rather than an answer. In my original post, if you read it, I detail specific info I need to ask contractors before starting this work - concrete mix, re-bar sizes, etc. I can't understand why anyone would need to "see" anything to answer some of those very specific questions, especially since I am REPLACING, not fixing, the whole thing. Judging by your responses I think maybe you missed that particular point. Your response to one of my questions was "why not?". I don't consider that very helpful. I also care about this forum so maybe these points will improve the forum and help you with your skills as moderator for the benefit of all participants. Which I'm sure is your ultimate goal. Again, if you or anyone else would care to answer any of the specific questions in my original post it would be appreciated.

BusterHymen,
If you read the questions and answers, you'll see that I asked you for additional informations. I tried to give an accurate information.
As I told you, I am not going to publish an answer that if I am not sure that it is accurate and complete. And as you are replacing, each condition is different from the other.
When I told you "Why not?", I was trying to understand if you have some technical reason about it.
Best,
