I am planning a facelift for the fireplace. A six foot oak mantle will be attached. The hearth will be taken out and replaced with marble tile. Then round river rock will be attached to the face of the fireplace. Besides morter, will I need any additional material to apply or mix to ensure the rocks will not come off. Would covering the fireplace with a metal mesh be necessary?
