My sons football team watches their games on a big screen tv. They have broken the screen. Can the coach buy a replacement and repair it himself? Can he buy the material that the screen is made of. I think it is just the outside layer of screen?

Yes, it should be repairable. There are usually more than one layer as you suggested. You may just want to remove the outer layer and toss it out. It costs up to $200 to replace the layers. You would have to contact a parts manufacturer to narrow the cost down, but its not a difficult installation.
