Not sure if I have the correct group but hope you can help. My pro-50 scanning radio is a couple years old and has worked well, suddenly I can not receive on it any more. I have volume and scwelch, but it will not receive known channels, I have tried new ant. and ear phones, it is not just the speaker. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance, Larry

Where are you located? Do you have power? Lights and such? It could be possible that your cops/fire etc has moved to 800 MHz. Other than that there is just no way to tell you what to do. You don't have the equipment or tech knowledge to work on this device. Personally I don’t think a person should be allowed to work on a receiver without at least a tech class ham license. I actually have an old General Radio Telephone License. They are worthless now but I got one. (Technically you are not supposed to work on a radio transmitter without a Restricted Radio Telephone License.). Sorry but that's just the way it is with radio receivers and transmitters. There are a dozen different things that could be wrong. The earphone is dead? Not even any static? If you have static the front end may have de-tuned from a magnetic source or being dropped.

if you can recieve anything then i believe whatever you are attempting to listen to has moved. however if you get nothing at all it could be a problem with the scanner. take it in to your local radioshack and have it repaired. it will require you to leave a $10 deposit which will be credited tword the repair cost, or if they dont repair it, it will be refunded to you. either that or time to get a new scanner. you can find them on sale starting at $79.97! (some models can also be purchased online at radioshack.com)

Thanks for your help,
I had thought of these options, I was hoping there was something that I had overlooked. The worst case situation has arose, " I have to tell my wife" I need a new scanner....
Thanks again,Larry
