I want to redecorate my downstairs playroom. This means placing a big 37inch TV near my fireplace that will be used quite frequently during the winter months. How far apart does the tv have to be placed from the fireplace. I am worried that the heat from the fireplace could damage the TV.

Placing TV near fireplace will depend upon how much heat is generated by the fireplace. Intense heat can melt plastic and can shorten the life of the TV.
