Our fireplace is done in old red brick. You can see the places where they've repaired the mortar - some is light and some is dark. Is there anything we can do to the brick/mortar to make it look better? Paint it all or paint the mortar? Any suggestions welcome. We use the fireplace all the time. Can't afford to replace at this time.
Thanks

I think painted fireplaces look sharp. You could also tile it, grout the face and stick your marble collection in it-- The possibilities are endless! This would cover up the contrast problem. I would think you could also chisel out the mortar and re-mortar it if you like the exposed brick.
