We nearly made it through the summer, but yesterday our five year old AC unit stopped blowing cold air. The pump works, etc. but the air isn't cool and the freon line isn't cold.
Big question is really, "Can I fix this myself or do I need to call a repairman? I have no real AC experience so certainly don't feel qualified to do a whole lot. If I do need a repairman to charge the freon, what's an average cost - just a general number noone will be held too. I just want to get my arms around the problem.
Thanks,
Susan

Generally not d-i-y work. Servicing costs depends on where you are; I paid about $50 last year for a service call. Freon was a little low plus the service guy cleaned the evaporator coils.
