We are getting estimates on foundation piering. Due to expansive soil, the foundation of our split-level has dropped about 2 1/4 inches in the downhill corner. One company would do a cable-lock pier, using concrete sections threaded on a steel cable, like beads on a string. Most of the companies that bid would do steel piers. All would raise the foundation to near level.
The cable-lock system comes with a lifetime, transferrable warranty, but their bid was nearly twice the others. Also, they can't do the job until November, and I'm holding a re-roofing until the foundation is done (they tell me the stress of raising the house may cause shingle nails to pop).
The steel piers come with at least a 10 year warranty. These steel piering companies can do the job by the first week of October.
We plan to be in the house at least several more years, but I'm not sure we'll be here forever.
Any comments or suggestions?
