I'm looking to use some kind of aggregate as a base to form contours with artificial putting turf. I created a wood box - and I'm intending to put some kind of sand, gravel or stone in the box - what I'm wondering is what my best choice would be if I didn't want to have to compact the aggregate (washed gravel maybe?) - and wanted it to keep its shape.

Any gravel or sand will require compaction.
