Viewed reply that suggested dowel rods used for tab top rods. Would like something more unique: lightweight, inexpensive. As "brackets", installed baskets w/handles--will thread "rod" thru handles.
Tried bamboo pole--doesn't allow tab tops to slide. (fyi: have used natural branches/limbs for "valances", attached old books, ivy, various items, etc., w/raffia.) Decor is mother nature/ country/shabby/chic.
I do not wish to use: PVC pipe, rakes, oars, etc. Any interesting, UNusual suggestions out there? Thanks!! Judy (NC)

what about a large-diameter rope tied from basket to basket? sort of a "clothes line" effect?
old picket fence post?
broom handle?
personally, i'd just use the dowel rod.........who's going to pay that much attention to the rod anyway? the focus will be on the curtains themselves and the basket "brackets", right?!
i see that your original question was posted quite a while ago, so i'm assuming you've completed your project by now! what did you end up using???
