I have a dining room table that I want to paint but I don't want just the paint color. Can I wipe a stain on over the paint to soften the color? Would any type of stain and paint be ok? Thanks
George

Yes, you can wipe a stain over paint. It will take to varying degrees depending on how rough the painted finish is. You may want to experiment on a scrap of wood, trying the same stain over parts of the board where the pint has been lightly sanded with different grits.
