We are taking up the carpets in the apartment we just bought, hoping to use the parquet wooden floor instead. However, in one section of the floor, it is covered with "tar glue." What is the best way to remove this? Would it be better _not_ to scrape it all off and put in new parquet tiles instead? Any and all advice would be much appreciated...

That tar glue you are referring too is old cutback adhesive for VAT tiles. It may contain asbestos.

They have a cut back adhesive remover.

The parquet manufacturer or the adhesive manufacturer have guidelines to follow when cutback is present. Get them to fax you over all the information you need.

I'm speculation wether you have a concrete slab or not.
